The 500 AWHP, AWD, Hillclimbing, Psycho Syclone - /TUNED

The 500 AWHP, AWD, Hillclimbing, Psycho Syclone - /TUNED

Check out Adam's insane, manual transmission, all wheel drive, all aluminum V-6 Syclone.

This thing gets it.

We end our fourth season with probably our favorite subject car of all time, Adam Auerbach's GMC Syclone Hillclimber. This truck is what "Tuned" is all about; customized in every way possible, 100% function with form following suit. It's nasty, dirty, evil, and perfect.

World's Fastest All Wheel Drive GMC Syclone

Roberts GMC Syclone is the world's fastest still all wheel drive. There are some faster rear wheel drive trucks, but at that point, they little resemble a V-6, all wheel drive Syclone. Glad to see him still running, and building.

8.76@161 mph.

SpeedHunters Features the Syborg - GMC Syclone

SpeedHunters just posted an article on Adam's Syborg GMC Syclone. This Syclone has lots of unique features that allow Adam to use the truck for a ton of automotive events.  Everything from Autocross to the Mohave Mile.

Turbonetics turbocharger

The truck is still powered by a turbocharged V6, but instead of the factory 4.3 Adam is running a 283 cubic inch aluminum “Bowtie” V6 from GM Performance. The motor work also includes a custom sheetmetal intake manifold, a Canton Racing Accusump system, and Big Stuff 3 engine management.
Great to see Adam get this project on the road, and using it the way he intended. Head over to SpeedHunters for the full article and pictures.

7.59@185 mph GMC Syclone

Jamie Hackings GMC Syclone

Its not all wheel drive anymore, but it still runs a V6. From what I can gather, its a Bowtie block, large 88 mm turbo, and runs in the 275x tire class. Its nasty fast with a 7.59@185 mph 1/4 mile pass.

Jamie Hacking's Syclone runs a new personal best at the 2011 World Cup, ends up having a problem in Eliminations and has to hit the brakes.
X275, Harrell Engine & Dyno.
-Congrats to Jamie on a new best and an amazing truck, we got to take a look up close and personal at the truck and it is super clean. Jamie was also a nice guy and took a few minutes to talk to us, especially the trucks biggest fan, seen in the pictures.

November 5-6, 2011 at Maryland International Raceway in Budd's Creek, MD.

Jay Leno's GMC Syclone

Jay Leno does a walk around of his 1991 GMC Syclone. He is pretty knowledgeable of the truck.  He says he has owned it since new. It looks to be in pretty good shape, but the cladding could use some polish.  I wonder if he has a Typhoon too.

GMC Syclone and Typhoon

It all started way back in 1990 for me. Maybe even before then. Hot Rod, Car Craft or one of those magazines was showing the S-10 pickup with a 3.8 liter Grand National engine. When the truck finally did end up getting produced, instead of the honestly better Buick 3.8 liter engine, it came with a turbocharged version of the 4.3 liter V6 Chevrolet/GMC engine.

When the trucks first came out in 1991, my familys business was exporting to Japan, and we had one customer that purchased a couple of them. The GMC Sylone had a short run, of only really one year. There were a couple of 1992's, but just a few.  For 1992 GM released the GMC Typhoon. The Typhoon was the SUV version of the Sylone. A little more practical than a turbocharged all wheel drive pickup that doesn't haul anything but ass.

My Typhoon, and a Japan bound Typhoon
I got my Typhoon in December 1992. It was a little less than a year old, with about 30,000 miles on it.  From then, I spent a lot of time with it, drag racing, street racing, and cruising all around the US.  Eventually it would end up getting stolen, recovered, and I would blow the engine up one last time. That was around 1999, and since then the truck has been parked. Pretty sad.

Sometime, I think it was around 1997-1998, I got a GMC Syclone. It had some issues, had been repainted gunmetal grey, missing driveshaft and some other pieces.  I drove that for a while, hurt the engine, rebuilt it once. Broke the trans a few times.  The last time I broke it, I parked it, and its been parked since. Both trucks need some fixing, and some motivation to actually do it.  My involvement with the Skyline GT-R, took a lot of my time, and money.  Now I need to start working on them again.
